Introduction

The Gazetteer provides an exhaustive Place Name Index to Great Britain, containing over 50,000 entries. It lists the historic county and the main administrative areas in which each place lies. Please read the accompanying notes before using the Gazetteer.

News

The Historic Counties Trust has now released digitised border data for the 52 historic counties of England and Wales in Google Earth (KMZ) and Arcview Shape (SHP) format. The data can be downloaded from the Trust's Historic County Borders Project website.

Quadhurst Maps has recently published a brand-new, full-colour map of the Historic Counties of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The map (size A0 - 47" x 33") is available as a wall map for £9.34 or as a folded map for £11.18. A laminated wall map is available for £22.08. Prices do not include postage.
