The Gazetteer provides an exhaustive Place Name Index to Great Britain, containing over 50,000 entries. It lists the historic county and the main administrative areas in which each place lies. Please read the accompanying notes before using the Gazetteer. |

The Gazetteer is now available as an E-Book (PDF) and Data Extract (CSV) for £15 (US$28).
The Historic Counties Trust has now released digitised border data for the 39 historic counties of England in Google Earth (KMZ) and Arcview Shape (SHP) format. The data can be downloaded from the Trust's Historic County Borders Project website.
